L'Anse Au Meadow | Saturday, Jun 21, 2025 | Saturday, Jun 21, 2025 |
L'Anse-aux-Meadows is the oldest European habitation site in North America. Led by Leif Eriksson, son of the Eric the Red, the Scandinavian Vikings crossed the North Atlantic in 1000 AD, becoming the first known Europeans to land in North America. Now protected as a national park, the historic site is set on the edge of the Strait of Belle Isle, across from Labrador, in a rough, rocky northern environment. It's a fascinating place, made special by the unobtrusive, low-key approach taken in its development. The Viking settlement includes replicas of sod buildings, complete with smoky scent, and there are also eight unearthed originals of wood and sod. There's an interpretive center to help make sense of things, and some Viking snacks might even be offered. Two-hour tours on a replica Viking ship are also offered.

Qaqortoq | Monday, Jun 23, 2025 | Monday, Jun 23, 2025 |
Qaqortoq means "The White Place", and the town is the educational and cultural center of Southern Greenland. The sheep farms give this part of Greenland special character. Qaqortoq has a sculpture park "Stone and Man" made by 18 Nordic sculptors. The result is 24 sculptures and reliefs spread all over town. Greenland's only public fountain is in the town square. The square is the historical part of town, with many buildings from colonial times and a museum concentrating on Greenlandic culture, the Norse period and the history of Qaqortoq. Close to the square is "Brædtet" market where local fishermen and hunters sell the days catch. There are 2 churches in town; "Frelserens" from 1832 and "Gertrud Raschs" from 1973. "Frelserens" hans the lifebuoy and memorial tablet with the names of those missing from M/S Hans Hedtoft, which went down in January 1959. "Gertrud Raschs" has one of Greenlands most beautiful altar pieces made by artist Maria Haagen-Müller.
Nanortalik | Tuesday, Jun 24, 2025 | Tuesday, Jun 24, 2025 |
Nanortalik means 'place of bears'. It is Greenland's southernmost town, the district border extends all the way from the island Qeqertarsuaq, north west of Alluitsup Paa to the Cape Farewell area and to the 60 kilometers long Lindenow Fjord in East Greenland. The area is approx. 15,000 square kilometers. The most renowned feature in the area is the Nanortalik skyscrapers - the steep peaks and sheer mountain walls lining the Tasermiut Fjord, Pamiagdluk, Prins Christianssund and Lindenow Fjord. Names like Ketil Mountain and Ulamertorsuaq are well known to most rock and mountain climbers in the world. The mountains in this area are just as challenging as the Alps and only experienced climbers should give it a go. The sealhunters move to the outermost islands in the spring to hunt the big hooded seal, because the seals' migratory route passes through these islands along with the field ice. Here, the hunter culture remains unspoilt for many generations. The supply for summer and winter is prepared on the islands. The place got its name, Nanortalik, because the polar bears drift by on big ice floes in the field ice from East Greenland. Each year several polarbears are spotted in the area, but they are of no danger to the inhabitants. In the spring and in the late summer the waters surrounding the municipality are filled with whales, of which the most frequent is the minke whale.

Sprangan is a cliff where young islanders are taught the rope swinging sport. Herjólfsdalur Valley has ruins of old farmhouses dating back to 650 AD. The western part of the island provides an opportunity to view outer islands. 'Stórhöfdi' has magnificent views over the island and majestic glaciers of mainland Iceland and is home to the island's largest puffin colony. Two volcanoes in Heimaey are 5,000-year-old "Helgafell" (Holy Mountain) and the Eldfell (Mt. Fire), whose history is more recent and which offers a viewpoint. A road through the lava field passes the center of the volcano's crater, the ruins of a house buried in lava, and the main streets. Skansinn wooden church was donated to the people of Islands by Norway to commemorate the millennium of Christianity in Iceland.
Reykjavik | Tuesday, Jul 01, 2025 | Tuesday, Jul 01, 2025 |
The fire, frost and water symbolized by the red, white and blue of Iceland’s flag are manifested in this land. Reykjavik, or Smoky Bay, was so named in 874 A.D. by Ingolf Arnarson when he sighted the numerous hot springs on the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula. Today this remarkably pollution-free city is wrapped around a sweeping bay and has managed to retain its charming Old-World atmosphere. A pastiche of red-blue-and green-roofed houses together with the tall gray tower of Hallgrim’s Church dominate the skyline. In Old Town, many of the wooden buildings have been lovingly restored and stand side by side with modern timber and concrete structures. There are fine museums and art galleries; historic pubs present activity in late afternoon. The beautiful countryside outside of Reykjavik includes such natural wonders as volcanoes, geysers, glaciers, mountains and spectacular waterfalls. |

Viking reserves the right not to accept passengers who are in an advanced state of pregnancy either upon commencement of or at any time during the river or ocean cruise.
All Viking ship interiors, staterooms, and verandas are non-smoking. Each ship has an outdoor smoking area, generally on the sun deck.
Viking will make every effort to accommodate special dietary needs. Every meal has vegetarian options on the menu, and chefs are able to prepare low-salt or gluten-free cuisine. Guests requiring special diets, such as diabetic or low-cholesterol meals, must alert Viking Cruises one month prior to departure and inform the Maitre d’ when on board, and the chefs will make make reasonable efforts to fulfill these requests.
Guests must report any disability requiring special attention while on their Viking Cruises itinerary to Viking at the time the reservation is made. All vessels and motorcoaches are equipped to European standards. Most transportation services, including the vessels and motorcoaches, are not equipped with elevators or wheelchair ramps. Viking will make reasonable attempts to accommodate the special needs of disabled travelers, but is not responsible in the event it is unable to do so nor is it responsible for any denial of services by vessel operators, air carriers, hotels, restaurants, or other independent suppliers. Viking cannot provide individual assistance to a vacation participant for walking, dining, getting on and off vessels, motorcoaches and other vehicles, or other personal needs. A qualified and physically able companion must accompany travelers who need such assistance and must assume full responsibility for their well being. The guest assumes the full risk of use and of any prohibitions imposed by vendors. Motorized scooters are not typically suitable on international cruises and cannot be accommodated.
Guests who have any medical, physical, or other special needs should contact Viking River Cruises directly at 1-877-668-4546 (1-877-66VIKING) with additional questions, and to obtain a copy of Viking's Policy Statement.
For guests' convenience, all Viking ships have Internet access, as follows:
- Ships in Europe, Russia and Ukraine - There is free Wi-Fi available, so you can bring your laptop and get online at any time. Alternatively, each ship has a few computers for guest use; there are desktop machines in Russia and laptops in Europe that guests may use free of charge. Guests who bring laptops to Russia may wish to bring a LAN cable for use in their stateroom; this may work a bit better than the wireless LAN in rural areas along the river.
- Ships in China - There is an Internet café with desktop stations for guest use, free of charge. There is no onboard wireless network in China or Southeast Asia, so you will not be able to get Internet service on your personal computer while on the ship, although you may be able to do so during hotel stays.
- Please note - Shipboard service may be unreliable during certain parts of the journey. The Internet connection functions via cellular service or satellite downlink, and there may be times when reception is not possible and/or when the connection is quite slow. For this reason, it is recommended that guests use the internet connection checking and sending email only, and not for downloading large files or watching video online.

Great service, personal attention, outstanding attitude by the service personnel, beautiful ship.
Pros: Great service, personal attention, outstanding attitude by the service personnel, beautiful ship.
Cons: Missed one stop.
Review: One of our best cruises. The service personnel from the cabin gentleman to the executive chef, makes you feel that you are the most important passenger in the ship.
The amaxing Viking luxeries and staff
Pros: The amaxing Viking luxeries and staff
Cons: A few dissapointing ports of call
Review: This was our first Viking Ocean Cruise, having experienced a river cruise a few years ago. The Viking experience was top notch; the staff goes out of their way to please, to get to know you, to thank you, to be super friendly. The food was certainly not typical "cruise food." The buffet had many, many options and the restaurants were outstanding. Our biggest disappointment were the ports of call, some of which require a long (60-90 minutes) commute to the destination city (Rome, Venice) then of course the same return time, which eats up a lot of your time. The smaller, lesser known ports were quaint but really not much to see except the local cathedrals.
Staff, Atmosphere, amenities
Pros: Staff, Atmosphere, amenities
Cons: Fellow travelers, excursions
Review: Our first trip with Viking. Second cruise ever - we were married while on our first cruise 20 years ago. This trip was our anniversary gift to each other! We loved the staff and all that they added to our voyage. From airport transfers to food/drink service, from housekeeping to spa services, everything the staff provided was top notch. Weather was a bit disappointing for part of our journey, but that's not a knock on anyone. The shore excursions were a bit too crowded for our taste and felt like a Jr. High field trip at times. While ashore, our fellow travelers' inability to keep up or follow directions was a bit frustrating. The QV gizmos were convenient, but cumbersome at times.
Viking Sky is an exceptional ship with wonderful accommodations and staff and service. The included country tours gave good snapshots of cities and countrysides. The additionsl tours were more expansive and specially geared for select interests. All in all we enjoyed the tours with the knowledgeable tour guides. After the tours we were able to enjoy the decks, swimming pools and the sauna rooms/thermal pools. Of course the food was great and service exceptional! Entertainment was plentiful and geared toward anyone's taste since there were so many venues. We felt safe with covid testing and contact tracing. All in all it was a great experience.

Cons: The only disappointment was that no free time to explore was allowed on the tours. We realize that due to covid situation control was necessary but we were all capable adults and could have found our way to a designated spot after an hour or so to be escorted back to the ship. In the future Viking should indicate if free time is allowed in the narrative regarding tour amenities. I felt a little cheated not being able to wander through some of the streets and shops and do a little exploring in these beautiful cities.
Review: I have no additional comments other than we had a wonderful time and hope that covid restrictions go away or at least are loosened in the future.
Lovely ship, immaculate cabins, friendly & competent crew, excellent dining options
Pros: Lovely ship, immaculate cabins, friendly & competent crew, excellent dining options
Cons: No Cons
Review: This is our 2nd Viking Ocean cruise and it matched the same excellence as our first aboard sister ship Viking Sun. We are fans of the "Viking Business Model" of small elegant ships, adults only, complimentary beer/wine, complimentary tour in every port, no casinos, no photographers... you get the idea. That isn't to say we don't have fun-- the stage shows are excellent and the crew hosts great pool-deck parties with dancing, shots of aquavit, tequila, etc.
Elegant, pristine, calm and relaxing, luxurious accommodations, great food with many dining options. Staff friendly and helpful and service was second to none. Spa was superb. Entertainment outstanding. Organization and excursions were excellent. Staterooms roomy and luxurious.

Pros: Pleasantly surprised at the experience: beautiful ship, great food, and service. Loved the pools and most excursions.
Cons: Some excursions spent too much bus time; needed more than a few photo ops.
Review: Some excursions gave too much free time at certain venues with not enough to do in the area. Local guides were the best. Ship entertainment was great.
Too many to list: excellent service by all employees, fantastic food, extremely clean and modern ship with amazing spa amenities, beautiful year round pool with dome cover

Cons: Absolutely no complaints!
Review: Our British Isles cruise took us to wonderful places. Least favorite was Dublin and Liverpool but even those were still interesting and good experiences. It probably helped that the weather was just about perfect every port.
Food, service, entertainment, size of stateroom
Pros: Food, service, entertainment, size of stateroom
Cons: Difficulty in booking excursions, one lecturer was unprepared and disjointed and went on too long..

Pros: Fantastic crew, well organized, delicious food, perfect size ship which never felt crowded and great excursions
Cons: Would like to have had more time to explore some of the ports of call.
Review: This being our first ocean cruise, it couldn’t have been much better. The size and amenities of the Viking Sky were perfect. We never felt crowded or had to wait for anything. I can’t say enough about the wonderful crew, who bent over backwards to make our time onboard unforgettable. The ports of call were everything we expected and more. We wish we had more time to explore more of Stavanger, Norway and Gdansk, Poland. I would highly recommend (and have) Viking to all my friends.
Excellent service food exercusions
Pros: Excellent service food exercusions
Cons: Could have more on ship experiences for sea days
Review: This is an excellent cruise. One thing that needs big improvement is when they do airlines they dropped us off at airport at a check in area that was a disaster. Lines and lines of waiting. Would have preferred to be dropped off at regular check in not in the basement with many bus loads of people.
Accommodating staff, adult activities and entertainment, excellent dining.
Pros: Accommodating staff, adult activities and entertainment, excellent dining.
Cons: Not for the wheelchair bound, many days at sea.
Review: While the staff did everything they could to accommodate my wheelchair-bound wife, tight doorways, stepped gangways and tender usage, as well as lack of grab bars made the cruise less enjoyable for both of us. Although there were few opportunities for my wife to leave the ship and positively no wheelchair accessible excursions offered, we still managed to take in the entertainment and activities aboard the ship, as well as way too much of the fine food available on board. We won't book another cruise until she is no longer wheelchair-bound, but when that happens, we will definitely be booking with Viking.
Fabulous
Pros: Fabulous
Cons: No Cons
Review: Hated for the cruise to end
Beautiful ship with large bathrooms and sufficient drawer/closet space. Enthusiastic multinational crew.
Pros: Beautiful ship with large bathrooms and sufficient drawer/closet space. Enthusiastic multinational crew.
Cons: Entertainment and shows were mediocre
Review: The ship was about a month old and was beautifully designed. Although full it never felt crowded. The use of technology was evident in the free wifi, live TV with CNN, Fox, etc. and updated port talks, schedules and menus available on the cabin screen. The food was good, and any service issues were quickly resolved. The entertainment was on par with college level singers and dancers, but since we were in port everyday with 8 am starts, we didn't take too much advantage of the lounges, spa, stores or nightclub. This cruise visited Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Sloveia, and we were fortunate to have sunny weather and be the only ship in port every day. The excursion quality was good and well organized, whether included or additional charge.
